Admin History | The Corporation of Foreign Bondholders was founded in 1868, incorporated in 1873 and reconstituted by Act of Parliament in 1898. Control of the organisation was vested in a council, the Council of Foreign Bondholders and it was this name that was generally used. The purpose of the Corporation was protect the interests of world-wide holders of sterling bonds issue in the United Kingdom on behalf of overseas states and governments. In 1936 financial support, in the form of annual subventions from the Bank and other City institutions, was organised by the Governor, Montagu Norman. Over the years its role was diminished and in 1989 the Corporation was wound up, and the remaining funds were transferred to a new body called the Developing Countries Educational Trust. |
