| Description | The Secretary's Department maintained its own series of personal files on senior officials who were regarded as operating outside the normal Departmental structure. Most of the files relate to Bank advisers and outside consultants employed by the Bank. Those relating to Advisers engaged in the pre-war and immediate post-war period shed some light on recruitment policy and the Governor's management style. From the mid 1950s most Advisers' posts were filled by internal appointment and the series degenerates into a chronicle of promotions, secondments and pension commutations. The series also contains records of certain ex gratia pensions paid by the Bank, and papers relating to Frank May who was replaced as Chief Cashier in 1893. |
