Admin HistoryThe Committee was appointed on 13 Mar 1783 and was to look into the business carried out in the Bank. The Committee's Report led to the formation of the three permanent Committees of Inspection. The Committee's work was taken over by the Joint Accountant's and Banking Department's Committee.
DescriptionWith index at the back of volume relating to volume 1 (M5/212) and this volume (volume 2). The volume contains summaries of evidence given to the Committee and the fourth, fifth, sixth reports to the Committee of Treasury.

The evidence includes detailed information on the following:

New safe in the Bill Office;
Interviews with staff of the Accountant's Office: Mr Laverick, Mr Rilleau, Mr Gribble, Mr Southey, Mr Newton (D book), Mr Aldridge (post bills);
Interview with staff of the Drawing Office: Mr Holmes, Mr Osmond;
Chief Accountant Mr Payne;
Deputy Accountant Mr Edwards: General Ledger;
Gratuities;
Bank Stock Office;
3% Reduced Office;
3% Consols Office;
Office for Consols 28 years Annuities and Annuities 1726;
Office of 4% Consols and Short Annuities;
Chancery Office;
Proposal to divide stock offices into two parts for the purpose of making transfer and paying dividends separately;
Cheque Office (established in 1760s);
Secretary's Department;
The Library - describing a room containing all the Bank's historical records, advising those that were no longer needed should be disposed of and a catalogue made of all other records (early records management policy p.164);

A list of keys from Mr Newland which were parcelled and deposited in the iron safe in the Committee room. (p. 180-183)
