Admin HistoryEach clerk had to provide one or more guarantors who paid a security (bond) that the Bank retained in the event of the clerk losing or misappropriating any money that they handled whilst at work.
DescriptionLedger listing the names of clerks with the details (names and addresses and amounts) of the individuals who put up personal securities (bonds) on behalf of each clerk as part of their employment at the Bank. Entries also include details of any changes in Guarantors; dates of clerks quitting or dying in service. The covering dates of the ledger are the dates between which the clerks listed were elected. Names listed alphabetically. This ledger does not contain the names of all clerks employed in the Bank during this period.
