Title | SECRETARY'S DEPARTMENT: CLERKS' SECURITIES |
Date | 4 Jul 1811 - 21 Nov 1844 |
Admin History | Each clerk had to provide one or more guarantors who paid a security (bond) that the Bank retained in the event of the clerk losing or misappropriating any money that they handled whilst at work. |
Description | Ledger listing the names of clerks with the details (names and addresses and amounts) of the individuals who put up personal securities (bonds) on behalf of each clerk as part of their employment at the Bank. Entries also include details of any changes in guarantors; dates of clerks quitting or dying in service. The covering dates of the ledger are the dates between which the clerks listed were elected. Names listed alphabetically. Loose letter (and note detailing the Bank's response) in front of the ledger from an anonymous guarantor requesting the immediate return of his Bond following the establishment of a 'Security Fund' (presumably the Clerks' Guarantee Fund set up in April 1841). |
