Admin History | The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) was established in Basle, Switzerland, under Swiss Law on 26 February 1930, and began its operations on 25 May 1930. The founders were the Central Banks of Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy and Japan, together with a group of American banks, J P Morgan & Co of New York, First National Bank of New York and First National Bank of Chicago. Meetings of the Governors of the Central Banks have normally been held in Basle (Basel) at monthly intervals ever since. |
