TitleTRADE AND PAYMENTS FILES: NATIONAL BANK OF ROMANIA SPECIAL ACCOUNT
DateFeb 1935 - Oct 1935
DescriptionNational Bank of Romania Special Account Payments agreement, 8 Feb 1935 (Cmd 4802) provided for a series of payments by Romania into a Special Account with the Bank of England. The Account was then to be used to pay Romanian debts - in full up to £20, and 20% of larger debts. On 31 May 1935 Romania gave the necessary one month's notice to terminate the agreement. On 28 Jun 1935 Romania asked the Bank to require beneficiaries from Special Account to certify that they had not had their claim settled in any other way; the Bank made the necessary arrangements. A new agreement, 3 Aug 1935 (Cmd 4976) provided for more payments to the Special Account, to be devoted partly to Romanian imports from the United Kingdom (UK), partly to old debts, and partly to other purposes (circular by Department of Overseas Trade, 9 Aug 1935). Payments were not made as arranged (see particularly Cameron Fromanteel Cobbold's note of 28 Oct at end of file.)
