Admin HistoryRichard Reginald Goulden (1877 - 1932) was a British sculptor, who had served in the First World War. He was commissioned by the Bank to design the statue of St Christopher, placed in Garden Court, which serves as a Memorial to the staff who died on active service. The statue was cast by A B Burton (foundry).
DescriptionThe volume of papers relating to a memorial to Bank staff who lost their lives in the First World War, which were bound together in 1922. 'These simple records, showing the gradual evolution of the scheme for perpetuating the memory of the Bank men who gave their lives in the Great War 1914-1919, have been collected, bound together and presented to the Bank Library in the hope that they will be of interest to posterity', it includes minutes of the various committees and a variety of correspondence, including letters to the sculptor, Richard Goulden.
