Overview

The Bank of England museum collection contains tens of thousands of items and spans over 1,500 years of history. It includes archaeology, banknotes, coins, artworks, sculpture, decorative art and social history. We’ve created loan boxes which contain some of these items for you to explore with students in the classroom.

What’s included?

The Notable Victorians and STEM Pioneers Loan Box explores the people and designs that appear on banknotes. Each box contains real banknotes alongside educational resources for teachers that explore the lives and achievements of the people that appear on them.

The Slavery & the Bank Loan Box contains five items that have links to either the transatlantic slave trade, the Bank of England, or both. The box contains notes for teachers that explain the history of each item alongside suggested classroom activities.

What curriculum stage/subject do the loan boxes support?

They are suitable for students studying Key Stage 2 or Key Stage 3 / Second or Third Level and can support a number of curriculum subjects including history, English and science.

How long can I borrow a box for?

Each box can be borrowed for up to 4 weeks.

How are the boxes delivered and collected?

We will organise a courier to deliver and collect the boxes (which could take place anytime between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday). If you borrow a loan box, it is important that a teacher is available between these times to receive and return the loan box on the confirmed dates.
