Information we collect about your use of the Bank of England website

The Bank of England (‘we’ or the ‘Bank’) collects personal data about visitors to its websites (www.bankofengland.co.uk and www.boe-careers.co.uk).

This personal data includes standard internet log information (such as IP address and the type of browser you’re using) and details of visitor behaviour patterns. Some information is collected by third party services.

This notice does not extend to other sites, even if links are provided.

Why we need your personal data and what we do with it

We collect this data to keep track of the number of visitors to the various parts of the site, manage visitor traffic and improve functionality and usability.  We do not identify individual visitors.

While browsing the website, this information is automatically captured.  You can, however, opt out of Google Analytics Cookies by following this link. You may also be able to select the Do Not Track option on your browser settings.  If you do not allow us to collect this information you may find our website less user friendly and more difficult to use.

Some other third party cookies are used.  For example, where a Google map or YouTube clip is embedded on one of our pages, this may disseminate cookies. We do not control these cookies and you should check the relevant third party's website for more information.  More information on ‘Cookies’ is below.

We will only use your personal data in a way that is compatible with the uses outlined to you, except where it’s necessary for us to do otherwise - for example, where we have a legal obligation to disclose it.

Safeguarding your personal data is important to us.  The collection of your website use data is protected by HTTPS encryption (on all traffic from supported browsers).

Google Analytics processes your information, on our behalf, primarily in the United States of America, under data privacy agreements. Read Google’s overview of privacy and safeguarding data.

We will keep your personal data for 25 months. You can request that we no longer use your personal data, by writing to us at the address below.

Other services and uses of the website

We may collect further personal data such as an email address if you wish to sign up to a mailing list, use another service or add content to the site. The relevant pages will provide more information about the personal data we collect.
