10am to 4.30pm

Listen to fascinating stories performed by our costumed actor. Learn about the California gold rush, and how someone once found a way into our gold vaults! You can also pick up our real 13kg gold bar and make a gold bar shaped money box to take home.

What you need to know

This activity is free.

It is for children and their families. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. 

Places are limited, so get here in good time to avoid disappointment. Collect a free ticket from our information desk when you arrive.

Storytelling sessions last about 20 minutes. They begin at:

  • 10.45am
  • 11.45am
  • 1.45pm
  • 2.45pm
  • 3.45pm

We have limited space for storing buggies and pushchairs. You may need to take them with you as you go round the museum.

Free admission

We are open Monday-Friday 10am to 5pm (excluding Bank Holidays), last entry at 4:30pm.
