Curator-led exhibition tours: Building the Bank

Join us for free curator-led tours of our current exhibition, ‘Building the Bank’

About the event

The Bank of England's building is not quite as old as it looks. Work began in 1925, when the demolition of the old Bank of England began so that Herbert Baker’s new Bank building could be constructed in its place. The building itself is a landmark within the City of London, decorated with symbolism that proclaims its purpose.

Join us for free lunchtime tours of our current exhibition, Building the Bank, which explores the transformation of the iconic Threadneedle Street building. Tours are delivered by Jennifer Adam, curator at the Bank of England Museum.

Please note, these tours are meant to be attended by individuals, rather than school or tour groups. If you arrive as a group, you might be unable to attend due to capacity.

Essential information:

  • The event is free to attend, but booking is required.
  • The talk will take place in the Rotunda area, which is located at the back of the Museum. A staff member at the Information Desk can advise on how to get there from the entrance.
  • Please ensure you arrive promptly to the Museum for the time of your talk. Please note, there is airport-style security at the Museum's entrance, and we recommend that visitors arrive 10 to 15 minutes early to attend their talk on time.
  • If you were unable to book a ticket, you may still be able to attend on the day. Please note however that walkin slots are offered on a firstcome, firstserved basis and depend on venue capacity. Otherwise, consider signing up to our newsletter via the link at the end of this page; all our subscribers receive early access tickets for our events.
