About the parade

The Lord Mayor’s show is one of London’s oldest and most celebrated civic traditions, dating back to 1215, when King John granted the City of London the right to elect its own mayor. As part of the charter, the newly elected Lord Mayor was required to travel to Westminster each year to swear loyalty to the Crown, a journey that has taken place almost every year since.

Over the centuries, this ceremonial journey evolved into a grand public procession, blending historic pageantry with modern spectacle. Check out the Lord Mayor’s Show website for more information about this year’s event.
