This publication examines the impact of the Second World War on the Bank of England, providing insight into the significant changes experienced by Bank colleagues during this period and highlighting the contribution of Bank staff to the war effort. It includes a Roll of Honour commemorating those Bank employees whose names are inscribed on the walls of Threadneedle Street. These individuals lost their lives either while serving in the Armed Forces or as a consequence of wartime circumstances.
The publication also features images of Victory in Europe (VE) Day celebrations, photographed from the Bank’s roof, together with coverage of the special Act of Remembrance held in 2025. The event, organised by the Bank Employees That Serve (BETS) network, brought together Bank staff, veterans, representatives from the Bank’s staff networks, and members of the Armed Forces community to commemorate the service and sacrifice of British and Commonwealth personnel who have served in conflicts around the world.
