Inclusive numismatics

A hybrid conference for people interested in the study of coins, medals, banknotes, tokens and other monetary items.

About the event

Date: 15 September 2023
Location: In-person at the Bank of England and online

Calling all collectors and detectors, students and teachers, enthusiasts and researchers, and all those curious about coins and banknotes.

You’re warmly invited to the Bank of England on 15 September 2023 for a remarkable day of talks and discussions, all connected to numismatics: the study of coins, medals, banknotes, tokens and other monetary items.

The day will include talks of different lengths to suit different styles, from ten-minute lightning talks, to longer papers (20 minutes) with time for discussion. We know that many people have missed out on networking in recent years, so we’re planning discussion-based sessions as well. We hope this event will help people join in with the numismatic community both in person and online.

Numismatics is a subject for everyone, and this conference seeks to create a welcoming space and friendly atmosphere. We’re excited to hear from people who have a story about money to tell, whether that’s from personal interest or professional research. Subjects might include:

  • Curious coins - what’s the quirkiest coin in your collection? We’d all love to know
  • Thorny problems - struggling with an ID? Let’s help each other out
  • New perspectives - fresh ideas keep us all engaged

The day is organised by the Inclusive Numismatics group, as a discussion space for women, people of colour, those from the LGBTQ+ community and anyone who has a passion for numismatics, but has not necessarily found that existing forums for sharing their study, research or work have been the right place.

To enable this, the event is free, catering is provided and we have a number of bursaries for travel costs.

For more information and to register for the conference either in person or online, please visit the Inclusive Numismatics website
