Bank of England to hear the views of local people in Belfast about the cost of living

The Bank of England plans to hear from local people in Belfast about the impact of the cost of living on their finances, as part of our Citizens’ Forum Programme which has been running across the UK since 2018.

About the event

Date: Tuesday 30 September 2025, 5.30pm to 8pm

The Bank of England is interested in hearing from people in the Belfast area about the impact of the cost of living on their finances and their experiences of the UK housing market, as part of our Citizens’ Forum Programme which has been running across the UK since 2018.

The event is designed to gather information from local people, which will complement existing data and analysis, and help inform the Bank’s policy decisions.

The event in Belfast on Tuesday 30 September (5.30pm-8pm) will give attendees the opportunity to share their views with Bank officials, including Huw Pill, Chief Economist and Executive Director for Monetary Analysis, and Nathanaël Benjamin, Executive Director, Financial Stability, Strategy & Risk. They will be joined by staff from the Bank's Agency for Northern Ireland.

The event will be chaired by John McMullan OBE – Vice Chair of the Housing Executive.

Entry is via pre-registration for forum members only, but anyone aged over 18 is eligible to join our community and register their interest in attending the Belfast panel session before Tuesday 16 September when registration closes. The exact location of the event will be shared after registration closes.

Refreshments will be provided, and the Bank will make a payment of £25 to all attendees to cover expenses.
