5th Annual Workshop of the ESCB Research Cluster on Climate Change

The Bank of England and the National Bank of Slovakia are hosting the fifth Annual Workshop of the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) Research Cluster on Climate Change, bringing together researchers from central banks to discuss the economic and financial implications of climate change and the transition to a low-carbon economy.

About the workshop

Date: 21 to 22 October 2026
Location: Bank of England, London

The Research Cluster on Climate Change (RCCC) is one of the research clusters established by the ESCB Heads of Research Committee to foster collaboration among central banks on shared topics of interest. It brings together central bank researchers working on climate economics and climate finance. The workshop provides a forum for participants to present new research, exchange ideas and receive feedback from colleagues across institutions.

Research presented at the workshop will examine how climate change and the transition to a low-carbon economy affect the economy and financial system. Topics will include the economic costs of extreme weather events, how banks account for natural-disaster risk in their lending, and how carbon pricing is transmitted through supply chains and international trade.
The programme will also consider the effects of the energy transition on household finances, the role of green public spending and sustainable finance, and the implications of the transition for growth, public finances and monetary policy.

The workshop will feature keynote speeches by Simon Dietz (London School of Economics) and Rick Van der Ploeg (University of Oxford).

Organisers: Francesca Diluiso (Bank of England) and Vladimir Otrachshenko (National Bank of Slovakia)
