Announcing the date, Merlyn Lowther, the Bank's Chief Cashier, said "This new note, featuring Elizabeth Fry in place of George Stephenson, will also incorporate new design and security features. 21 May is a particularly appropriate date for the issue of the note as it is the anniversary of Elizabeth Fry's birth."
