The Bank of England plans to resume issuing the new Elizabeth Fry £5 note in the week commencing 19 August.
Published on
18 July 2002
This follows suspension of issuance on 27 May after it was discovered that on some notes it was possible to remove part or all of the serial numbers when the note was rubbed hard. The exact date on which issuing of the Elizabeth Fry £5 note will begin again will be announced nearer the time.
