The Bank is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Graham Nicholson as Chief Legal Adviser and Adviser to the Governor of the Bank of England, with effect from 1 January 2009. Mr Nicholson replaces Dame Juliet Wheldon who is leaving the Bank at the end of the year.

Speaking about the announcement, The Governor of the Bank of England, Mervyn King, said "I am delighted that Graham has agreed to join the Bank. He has been a partner at Freshfields for the past 28 years and has a very good knowledge of the Bank. He also brings a wide experience of corporate law and the financial sector."
