The Bank of England is deeply sad to announce that its former Governor, Eddie George, passed away today after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was 70 and is survived by his wife Vanessa and their three children.

There will be a private family funeral after which the Bank will announce details of a memorial service to be held to commemorate the life and work of Lord George.
