Update on the 2026 Dynamic General Insurance Stress Test (DyGIST)

Statement

The Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) confirms that the 2026 Dynamic General Insurance Stress Test (DyGIST) will commence in May 2026, with the objectives and format remaining as outlined in our original announcement.^{footnote [1]}

Participation

The PRA intends to invite the insurers listed in Annex A to participate in this exercise. These firms collectively represent more than 80% of the PRA-regulated general insurance market, including several of the largest UK branches, as measured by gross written premium.

Next steps

Participating firms will be invited to attend a workshop in September 2025 that will provide additional details on logistics. An additional workshop with participating firms, vendors and brokers who may be supporting firms throughout the exercise will be planned thereafter. The PRA will also continue to invite trade bodies to participate. These workshops are intended to offer ongoing support and to gather feedback on the operational aspects of producing and running a set of stylised adverse events.

We note that the final scenarios will only be shared during the ‘live’ phase of the exercise, and publication of results will be at the sector level.
