Biography

Matthew is an economist specialising in financial markets.  He holds a PhD in Finance from Cass Business School.  After a spell at the National Institute of Economic and Social Research, he joined the Financial Services Authority in 2006, just in time for the global financial crisis.  There he worked on a wide variety of policy issues and eventually focused on bank regulation.  

Since 2013 Matthew has worked in the Markets area, briefing on financial markets and designing monetary policy and liquidity insurance operations.  He also manages a market intelligence team focusing on bank funding markets.  While these days he spends most of his time on policy matters, he also maintains research interests in banks’ management of their capital ratios and money markets.  He is an Associate Editor and a regular contributor to the Bank Underground blog.
