Andrew reflects on the economic challenges posed by the fragmented nature of today’s different payment methods and systems, and notes that there is increasing demand for a more seamless experience. He sets out two main ways that payment systems could converge, and how the Bank’s vision for our real-time gross settlement (RTGS) system fits in to this.
