In her speech, Silvana Tenreyro considers some long-term issues in the global economy. She focuses on three ideas that have dominated the policy and academic debate in the years since the 2008 financial crisis. These are:

• the role of the dollar in international trade
• the effect of trade barriers on the economy
• the so-called ‘Doom Loop’ connecting sovereign and bank risk

And she examines what they could mean for the UK.
