Number of First Year Internship applications and offers between 1 January 2016 to 13 February 2021

Freedom of Information rules mean that, as a public authority, the Bank of England is obliged to disclose certain types of information, both proactively and on request.

Date: 8 March 2021

Disclosure:

In 2016, the Bank of England (the ‘Bank’) was one of the first organisations to launch First Year Internships. Consequently, we received more applications in 2016 than in subsequent years as more organisations began to provide First Year Internships.

The Bank does not hold the number of applicants for 2017 and 2018 as we no longer retain that information. We also do not hold the total number of offers made for the 2021 First Year Internship as the recruitment process is currently ongoing and no offers have been made as at 13 February 2021.

The table below provides the total number of applicants and offers that we hold:

Year  Total number of applicants  Total number of offers
 2016  3774  8
 2017  Not held  9
 2018  Not held  10
 2019  1551  5
 2020  1591  9
 2021  1623  Not held
