As announced on 29 April, the Bank of England is to withdraw from circulation at the end of this month, the older style £10 notes featuring a portrait of Charles Dickens.

16 July 2003
Holders of these notes may continue to use them until 31 July. Thereafter they will no longer be legal tender and so they will not be widely accepted in retail outlets. Most banks, building societies, and Post Offices will continue to accept the Dickens £10 notes for several months after the end of July but this will be at the discretion of the individual institution.
