Issue of Banknotes with the Signature of the New Chief Cashier
In a news release on 30 December 2003 the Bank announced that Andrew Bailey would be taking up an appointment as Chief Cashier of the Bank of England with effect from 1 January 2004.

The first notes carrying Mr Bailey's signature are now coming into circulation and will co-circulate with notes that carry the signature of the previous Chief Cashier, Merlyn Lowther, who retired from the Bank at the end of 2003.
