The 28th meeting of the Bank's Panel of Academic Consultants was held on Friday, 3 October 1986.
The meeting took as the basis for discussion a recent paper by Professor Charles Goodhart, entitled 'What is the purpose of regulating financial services?'. Much of the material in this paper will appear as a new chapter in the revised edition of Professor Goodhart's book Money, Information and Uncertainty.
