Capital Issuance - May 2018

Capital issuance statistics consist of UK-based primary market issuance of bonds, commercial paper and equity, representing finance raised in the UK.

An issue in Capital Issuance source data identified last month that caused an underestimation of commercial paper (CP) repayments and, to a lesser extent, CP issuance, between February 2018 and April 2018 has now been corrected and the revised data are included in this release.

Overview

  • Gross issuance by UK residents was £50.7bn in May, £16.9bn higher than in April and £10.7bn higher than the previous six month average.
  • PNFC net bond issuance was £11.0bn in May, £13.5bn higher than in April and £10.8bn higher than the previous six month average.
  • MFIs had net bond repayments of £3.1bn in May, compared with net repayments of £5.1bn in April. This compares against a net issuance of £2.4bn of the previous 6 month average.
