All sectors
- Gross capital issuance by UK residents was £37.9bn in August, compared to £38.6bn in July and the previous six month average of £43.6bn (Chart 1).
- Net issuance was £5.1bn in August, compared to £3.8bn in July and the previous six month average of £2.8bn (Chart 1).
- Year-to-date gross issuance was £340.1bn, £39.2bn lower than at the same point the previous year (Chart 2).
- Year-to-date net issuance was £21.8bn, £46.2bn lower than at the same point the previous year (Chart 3).

Bond issuance
- Gross bond issuance was £26.4bn in August, compared to £24.9bn in July and the previous six month average of £26.9bn (Chart 4).
- Net bond issuance was £8.1bn in August, compared to £2.4bn in July and the previous six month average of £2.5bn (Chart 4).
- The increase in net issuance was primarily driven by an increase in issuance by the MFI sector.
Commercial paper issuance
- Gross commercial paper issuance was £11.0bn in August, compared to £11.4bn in July and the previous six month average of £14.2bn (Chart 5).
- Net commercial paper issuance was -£1.2bn in August, compared to £0.0bn in July and the previous six month average of -£1.3bn (Chart 5).
- The decrease in net issuance was primarily driven by an increase in repayments by the MFI sector.
Equity issuance
- Gross equity issuance was £0.4bn in August, compared to £2.3bn in July and the previous six month average of £2.5bn (Chart 6).
- Net equity issuance was -£1.9bn in August, compared to £1.4bn in July and the previous six month average of £1.6bn (Chart 6).
- The decrease in net issuance was primarily driven by a decrease in issuance, combined with an increase in buybacks, across both the PNFC and OFC sectors.
