All sectors
- Gross capital issuance by UK residents was £31.0bn in May, compared to £30.8bn in April and the previous six-month average of £39.5bn (Chart 1).
- Net capital issuance was -£3.2bn in May, compared to -£4.8bn in April and the previous six-month average of £0.0bn (Chart 1).
- Year to date gross issuance was £181.3bn, £39.5bn lower than at the same point the previous year (Chart 2).This is £34.3bn lower than the previous four-year average.
- Year to date net issuance was -£20.9bn, £40.1bn lower than at the same point the previous year (Chart 3).This is £56.1bn lower than the previous four-year average.
Bond issuance
- Gross bond issuance was £16.8bn in May, compared to £17.4bn in April and the previous six-month average of £23.2bn (Chart 4).
- Net bond issuance was £2.8bn in May, compared to £0.2bn in April and the previous six-month average of £1.6bn (Chart 4).
- The increase in net issuance was driven by a decrease in repayments by the MFI and OFC sectors.
Commercial paper issuance
- Gross commercial paper issuance was £13.8bn in May, compared to £12.2bn in April and the previous six-month average of £14.9bn (Chart 5).
- Net commercial paper issuance was -£0.7bn in May, compared to -£2.2bn in April and the previous six-month average of £0.3bn (Chart 5).
- The increase in net issuance was driven by an increase in issuance by the MFI sector.
Equity issuance
- Gross equity issuance was £0.4bn in May, compared to £1.2bn in April and the previous six-month average of £1.4bn (Chart 6).
- Net equity issuance was -£5.3bn in May, compared to -£2.8bn in April and the previous six-month average of -£1.9bn (Chart 6).
- The decrease in net issuance was driven by an increase in buybacks from the PNFC sector combined with a decrease in issuance by the OFC sector.
