Consolidated worldwide claims - 2023 Q1

This statistical release covers the consolidated worldwide external claims and unused commitments of UK-owned monetary financial institutions (excluding central banks) and their branches and subsidiaries worldwide.
Published on 16 June 2023

Key points

  • UK-owned monetary financial institutions and their branches and subsidiaries worldwide reported an increase in consolidated external claims on an ultimate risk basis of $164.8 billion during 2023 Q1, to a level of $4,261.4 billion.
  • By sector, the largest increase in claims was on the other financial corporations sector, up by $80.6 billion to a level of $1,049.3 billion.
  • By region, the largest increase in claims was on Developed Countries, up $128.9 billion to a level of $2,562.6 billion.
  • Please note following Croatia’s adoption of the euro from 1 January 2023, it has been reclassified from European Developing Countries to European Developed Countries. This is consistent with the approach used for other acceding countries that have adopted the euro. This reclassification has been made retrospectively to both country groups for the 16 June 2023 publication.
