Credit union quarterly statistics - 2016 Q3

The credit union quarterly statistics are statistics aggregated from the quarterly (CQ) returns submitted by authorised credit unions in the United Kingdom.
Published on 31 January 2017

The statistics provide a breakdown of the balance sheet, income statement, membership and loans. The figures are reported at a UK level and split to show aggregated values for England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Key points from the data to the end of September 2016 include:

  • Membership numbers have remained broadly stable with membership of well over 1.9 million.
  • Total assets have continued to rise over the year and have reached over £3 billion in the third quarter of 2016. This increase in assets comes with a corresponding increase in loans to members.
  • The value of total net liabilities in arrears has decreased in all countries across the UK this quarter, following moderate increases each quarter in the total UK figures over the previous year.
