Despite a small overall drop in total income across the UK to just under £225 million, a 0.6% increase in total income in England was enough to push the figure just above £100 million for the first time, from £99.8 million in 2020.
UK total grants increased by £9.0 million to top £13.7 million in 2021, an increase of almost 190% from 2020. This was primarily driven by a £7.1 million rise in grants in Scotland, following an increase in government funding.
Wales contributes the least to the overall UK totals, with only 15 credit unions authorised in the country. However, in 2021 total assets in Wales increased by 9.5% to £65.2 million, of which investments accounted for £41.2 million, an increase of 15.5% over 2020.
Total assets in Northern Ireland passed £2 billion for the first time – a 7.0% increase took the total assets from £1.9 billion in 2020 to almost £2.1 billion in 2021.
