Key points from the data
- Despite a small overall drop in total income across the UK to just under £225 million, a 0.6% increase in total income in England was enough to push the figure just above £100 million for the first time, from £99.8 million in 2020.
- UK total grants increased by £9.0 million to top £13.7 million in 2021, an increase of almost 190% from 2020. This was primarily driven by a £7.1 million rise in grants in Scotland, following an increase in government funding.
- Wales contributes the least to the overall UK totals, with only 15 credit unions authorised in the country. However, in 2021 total assets in Wales increased by 9.5% to £65.2 million, of which investments accounted for £41.2 million, an increase of 15.5% over 2020.
- Total assets in Northern Ireland passed £2 billion for the first time – a 7.0% increase took the total assets from £1.9 billion in 2020 to almost £2.1 billion in 2021.
