Key points from the data:
While the number of adult members continues to increase in all regions, and now stands at 2,037,676, the number of juvenile depositors fell for the 14th successive quarter, decreasing by 1.0% to 196,399.
Total capital has increased by 4.8%, almost twice the rate of the previous quarter-on-quarter increase of 2.4%. This has mainly been driven by figures for Scotland, which saw a 14.5% increase in capital levels compared to Q1 2023.
The number of loans in arrears has increased by 5.3% quarter-on-quarter, driven entirely by increases in England and Scotland. The average amount in arrears overall now stands at £1,951, although this varies considerably by region, with Wales showing an average of £1,144 while Northern Ireland’s average is £3,025.
Total income has increased by 12.7% quarter-on-quarter, to £79.96 million, with Scotland seeing the largest percentage change from the last quarter, at 19.4%.
