Biography

Stephen Blyth is an external member of the Financial Policy Committee.

He is a British mathematician and financial markets academic who was principal of Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, from October 2022 to September 2025. Stephen also spent 16 years at Harvard University from 2006, where he was professor of the practice of statistics, and president and CEO of the Harvard Management Company, responsible for investment management of the university’s endowment.

He served as managing director in global markets at Deutsche Bank in London (2003-06) and in the fixed income division at Morgan Stanley in New York (1997-03).

Stephen has a PhD in statistics from Harvard University and an MA in mathematics from Christ’s College, Cambridge, where he was third wrangler.
