Over £250,000 raised for our charities of the year

We are pleased to have raised £258,411.61 for our two charities of the year 2015/16, The Myotubular Trust and The Lily Foundation.
Published on 22 December 2016

Our staff raised the money through a series of fundraising events and initiatives including taking part in the London marathon, bake sales, a sponsored football match and the Pennies from Heaven scheme. The Bank then matched £25,000 of the money raised for each charity

The two charities also benefited from the success of our fourth charity banknote auction in October. A final share of the proceeds from the auction was also donated to Bliss, a charity nominated by Simon, and chosen by his colleagues in our Notes division. You can read about Simon’s story on the Bliss website.

The total amount fundraised by staff is higher than previous years and will have a lasting impact on The Lily Foundation and Myotubular Trust.

The Myotubular Trust will use the money to pay for a three year research grant to find treatments for myotubular myopathy. Because of our fundraising, the trust is now able to consider a wider range of projects when looking at research grant applications. The money raised for The Lily Foundation will help it to continue offering support and giving families access to medical professionals who specialise in researching the causes of mitochondrial disease. Find out more about The Lily Foundation's work.

The Bank of England fosters an inclusive culture where everyone can contribute to the public good. As part of this we encourage colleagues to support the community and charitable causes that they care about.

Each year, colleagues are invited to nominate and then vote for the charities they would like to support. Our new charities for 2016/17 are Macmillan Cancer Support and Haven House Children’s Hospice
