Published on 01 March 1982

In the operation of monetary policy, regard has continued to be paid to a range of considerations - notably, the course of sterling M3 and the other monetary aggregates as well as the exchange rate, the rate of inflation and developments in the economy affecting them. This assessment discusses exchange rates and interest rates abroad, and the development of the economy at home, as the context in which monetary policy has operated.
