This note introduces a new measure of deposits, which focuses on the transactions balances of the private sector.
The new series has been constructed as one of the steps, announced by the Chancellor of the Exchequer in his Budget Statement on 10 March 1981, to improve the information available about the narrower measures of money; it is called M2.
