Instructions

Overview of reported data

This return captures reporting institutions’ claims on non-residents, split by counterpart country, counterpart sector, and currency. It also collects an instrument breakdown by:

  • loans and advances, and claims under sale and repurchase agreements
  • holdings of bills
  • lending under ECGD bank guarantee
  • holdings of certificates of deposit and commercial paper
  • portfolio investments in shares and other equity
  • portfolio investments in securities other than shares

The currency breakdown is composed of: sterling, euro, US dollar, Japanese yen, Swiss franc, and other currencies.

The broad economic sector of counterparties are:

  • bank sector counterparties include—intra-group, central monetary institutions, and other deposit-taking corporations
  • non-bank sector counterparties include—other financial corporations, general government, non-financial corporations, households, and unallocated by sector

In every return firms also need to include:

  • their company name
  • their legal entity identifier (LEI) or firm reference number (FRN)
  • the first day of the reporting period
  • the last day of the reporting period
